Batu Bolong ligt tussen Komodo eiland het eiland Tatawa, midden in het rijke onderwatergebied van Komodo. Hoewel je Batu Bolong het hele jaar door kunt bezoeken, loopt het hoogseizoen meestal van april tot oktober. In deze periode zijn de weersomstandigheden beter voorspelbaar, is de zee rustiger en is het zicht onder water beter – ideaal voor duikers en snorkelaars die op zoek zijn naar kristalheldere onderwaterervaringen.

The easiest way to reach Batu Bolong is via a liveaboard or speedboat trip departing from Labuan Bajo, the gateway to Komodo National Park. Flights from Bali or Jakarta to Labuan Bajo are available daily, and the boat ride to Batu Bolong typically takes a couple of hours, depending on sea conditions.

Batu Bolong is a current-swept pinnacle in the middle of the Linta Strait, and the strait is exactly why it is so alive: tidal water squeezing between Komodo and Flores delivers a constant stream of nutrients, so the rock carries more fish per square meter than almost anywhere else in the park. Expect dense clouds of anthias and fusiliers over near-pristine hard coral, with white-tip reef sharks, napoleon wrasse, turtles and trevally working the edges. Because the site is small and the currents are real, boats dive it only around slack tide, and good crews position guests on the protected lee side — one more reason the coral here has stayed intact.
Snorkelers are not left out: at slack tide the top 5 meters of the pinnacle is one of the best free-swim reefs in the park. Our crews check the tide tables and sequence Batu Bolong between Siaba and Manta Point so you hit the window, not the washing machine.
